Special guests and speakers at the breakfast included Secretary Yana Garcia (California Secretary for Environmental Protection), Minister George Heyman (Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, British Columbia), Senator Henry Stern (California State Senator, District 27), Lauren Faber O’Connor (Chief Sustainability Officer, Office of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti), and Cynthia Williams (Global Director, Sustainability, Homologation and Compliance, Ford).
“I am proud to be bringing the 2023 Climate Leadership Conference Awards home to Los Angeles, and thrilled to make this announcement in true bicoastal fashion at Climate Week NYC,” said Amy Holm, Executive Director of LA-based nonprofit The Climate Registry. “To do so from the magnificent, green offices of our good friends at Arup makes it that much more special, and cements our collaboration further. We are also honored that this kickoff event to the CLC includes remarks and welcomes from Canadian and Californian government officials, who have been historical partners of the CLC for many years, as well as our corporate partners.”
Themes from this morning’s discussions included the critical and growing acknowledgement that corporations and other subnational actors must continue stepping up and taking a central role in the fight against climate change. This theme will be carried over and expanded into next year’s Climate Leadership Conference and Awards.
“As an employee-owned firm with the mission of shaping a more sustainable future for all, Arup is proud to sponsor The Climate Registry’s Climate Leadership Conference and Awards, in addition to our support of the Pathways to 1.5 Pavilion at COP27,” said Robert Kay, Principal, Americas Climate & Sustainability Services Leader at Arup. “I am inspired by the climate leadership and ambition demonstrated at the breakfast we hosted today, and we look forward to carrying that spirit of action into the months and years ahead through our growing collaboration with The Climate Registry.”
Produced by The Climate Registry, The Climate Leadership Conference and Awards brings together stakeholders, nonprofits, policymakers, corporations, and others to connect and collaborate on fighting climate change. The 2023 conference will be held from May 10-12, 2023, at the Sheraton Grand Los Angeles.
