Michelle Thomas

Principal Manager, Building Electrification & Codes and Standards, Southern California Edison

Michelle is the Principal Manager of Building Electrification at Southern California Edison. There, she
supports SCE’s strategic initiative for GHG reduction, among which calls for using electricity to power up
to three-quarters of space and water heating in buildings by 2045. To help jumpstart this climate
imperative, SCE recently filed an application with the California Public Utilities Commission requesting
funding to install a quarter million heat pumps and 65,000 panel upgrades or enhancements. Michelle
has over 25 years of electric utility experience, including energy efficiency, equity-focused program
design, and regulatory policy. She has a BA in Journalism/Political Science from California State
University, Long Beach, and this year will earn her M.S. in Energy Policy and Climate from Johns Hopkins
University.
